SwimNow with Avery Pion is a personalized one-on-one backyard swim lesson service designed to help kids of all skill levels gain confidence and improve their swimming abilities. Located in Avery’s private backyard pool, SwimNow has been offering fun, safe, and engaging summer swim lessons for over five years. From first-time swimmers to competitive swim team members, each lesson is tailored to meet individual needs and goals. With a focus on technique, encouragement, and enjoyment, Avery ensures that every child ends each session feeling proud, accomplished, and smiling.

About Me

Hi! I’m Avery Pion, the founder of SwimNow with Avery. I’m 19 years old and have been passionate about swimming nearly my entire life. I’ve been teaching swim lessons for the past five years and absolutely love helping kids grow more confident in the water.

My experience in the pool started early—I’ve been a member of the West Shore Country Club swim team since 2014 and have coached their Mini Sharks program as well. I also swam competitively with the Cumberland Valley Aquatic Club (CVAC) starting in 2016 and was on the Cumberland Valley High School varsity swim team all four years. I served as team captain my senior year and competed at the PIAA State Championships in 2023, along with the Mid Penn and District meets in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

In high school, I also taught for the Baby Eagles swim program for three years and spent two summers lifeguarding at Harrisburg Country Club. I’m currently certified in CPR and First Aid through the Red Cross.

I just finished my freshman year at Penn State, where I continued my love for swimming on the club team. When I’m not in the water, I love skiing, fishing, traveling, and hanging out with my dog Tayto—she’s usually relaxing by the pool during lessons! Also, I’m a self-proclaimed ice cream carnivore.

I started SwimNow because I wanted to create a fun, welcoming environment for kids to learn and grow—just like I had growing up in the swim community. I’m so excited to share my passion with your family and make swim lessons fun, safe, and rewarding for every child!

I release the schedule one week at a time, every Sunday at 12:00 PM, to keep booking fair for everyone. If you don’t see any available lessons, it means that either my schedule is fully booked or lessons are not being offered that day.

Weather Policy

Please note that severe weather or thunderstorms may impact swim lessons. Safety is my top priority, and I will cancel lessons if conditions are unsafe. I’ll do my best to notify you as early as possible in the event of a cancellation. If a lesson is canceled due to weather, I’ll work with you to find a make-up time if possible.

Policies and Information

To help make lessons smooth, safe, and enjoyable for everyone, please review the following:

Potty Training & Bathroom Use:

Children must be potty trained to participate. Please use the bathroom before arriving. There is a bathroom available inside, but using it may require drying off first and will cut into lesson time.

Arrival Time:

Please arrive 5 minutes early. Most lessons are scheduled back-to-back, so arriving late means your lesson will be shortened (e.g., arriving 5 minutes late for a 30-minute session will result in a 25-minute lesson).

Lesson Format:

I do not offer group lessons. Only one child in the water at a time to ensure individual attention.

If you'd like two kids to take lessons, you may book a 1-hour slot and split it into 30 minutes each.

Ages Taught:

I specialize in teaching children only. I do not offer adult swim lessons.

Goggles:

Goggles are recommended but not required. I have a bucket of goggles available for use if needed.

Pool Details:

The pool is 12.5 yards long, ranges from 3 to 10 feet deep, and has a diving board. The temperature typically stays between 82–88°F, depending on the sun and weather.
I provide swim equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys, and diving toys.

Friendly Dog Alert:

My dog, Tayto, is very friendly and often comes out during lessons. She loves meeting new people!

Lesson Times:

Most lessons take place anywhere from 8am-4pm Monday to Friday.

Seating for Parents:

Feel free to relax on the patio furniture around the pool during the lesson.

Parking:

Please park on the street and walk up the driveway.

Payment:

I accept cash, check, Venmo, and CashApp. Please submit payment promptly after your lesson—don’t make me chase you down!

Cancellations:

If you need to cancel, please give me a heads-up or cancel directly through the Calendly link. I understand that emergencies happen, but please be considerate when cancelling.

What to Bring:

Swimsuit, towel, goggles (optional), and a water bottle.

Health Policy:

If your child is sick (fever, vomiting, or contagious illness), please reschedule the lesson. This helps keep everyone healthy and safe.

Photos/Videos:

I occasionally take photos or videos during lessons (with your permission) to celebrate progress or for promotional purposes. Let me know if you’d prefer not to have your child photographed.

Make-Up Lessons:

I do my best to reschedule canceled lessons due to weather or emergencies, but make-ups are not guaranteed due to limited availability.

Safety Note:

Please remind your child to wait on the pool deck until I invite them into the water. This helps ensure safety between back-to-back lessons.
